Commentary: Welshman Ncube rose to prominence in 1999 as one of the academics that joined the worker-dominated Movement for Democratic Change, landing the powerful post of Secretary-General.
Ncube was the chief negotiator for the MDC helping craft both the Kariba Constitution and sealing the agreement that brought about the Global Political Agreement under which the three parties joined the government of national unity in February 2009. Ncube was appointed Minister of Industry and Commerce in terms of the 2008 Zimbabwean Global Political Agreement, one of the most influencial positions in the Unity Government.

In 2011 January he was elected the President of Movement for Democratic Change at the the 3rd All Peoples Congress.
